So.
Long story short: we found out yeterday from our half-assed, dumb, ignorant landlady that the owner of the condo is putting it on the market to sell. That means, in essence, when someone signs to buy this place, we have three months to move. There are a lot of problems right now: we *still* do not have a copy of our lease (ILLEGAL); our landladies don't seem to even realize what is required legally of them to BE landladies, much less kick us out of our house (i.e. written notification of eviction, when the time comes, etc.) I called yesterday and had to steamroll one of them, demanding the lease and telling her that there would be no further discussion of us gong anywhere until they gave us a copy. I also had my mom contact her lawyer about it, to get the legal stance on this situation, and just to have that backing should we need it (because I have a sinking feeling we're going to). The bottom line is: according to Illinois state, the fact that we have been without a hard copy of our lease for almost 7 months is against the law, and should it come to blows, we would be well within our rights to sue them for breach of contract. There is a clause stating that should the unit be sold, we would have three months from the date of notification to vacate the place. Unfortunately, our landladies are ridiculous and are probably going to just slide past all this. If they do, we're gong to sue them.
In spite of this, I'm not bummed we'll have to move. I'll miss this place, but I know tere are even better places out there that we can find through our agent and afford. In fact, we know the city better and what we're looking for, so it'll make it easier to find another place. We found this apartment in 3 hours. Having three months is a lot of time. I hate moving. I hate it. Hate. But I'm looking at this as an oppurtunity, not a terrible loss.
So, yeah, lots more details and bullshit and all that fucking garbage, but just wanted everyone to know. There's a really good chance they won't even find someone to buy this place and our lease could just run out. Hopefully that's what'll happen.
Thoughts and prayers? Spells? Words of encouragement? Love you guys.
