I was shopping at Whole Paycheck Foods earlier this evening, picking up a few things I find there most easily and often cheaply (yes, they do have bargains if you're looking for the right things). As I was walking through their hot food and deli section, I spotted what looked like one of the usual sort of customers.. Slim white man, anywhere from his mid-thirties to mid-forties based on the hairline, short-cut brown hair, goatee, button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to just below his elbow, and khaki slacks. Then I got to his feet. His bare feet. Complete with teal nail polish on his right big toe that had seen fresher days.
blackfyr tried to get someone on staff to spot the guy, but he was so otherwise normal he evaded attention. We wound up behind him at checkout but couldn't bring ourselves to say anything when it was a bit late to note that the guy was risking the store's reputation with the state board of health. I commented on it to the cashier, who could only apologize and share my utter confusion. I grant you, I once walked into a McDonald's in a similar state, but I was 14 and helping with a car wash in the same parking lot. The cashier also noticed and was sensible enough to remind me of the issues involved in a polite fashion.
I almost wonder how often this guy has pulled that stunt off. Amazing what otherwise looking like a yuppie will do for a person.
