ABC News blog article on McCain's announcement that he will
suspend his campaign in order to focus on the current financial crisis contains the following response from Obama to his request they postpone their first debate, scheduled for this Friday:
"I believe that we should continue to have the debate," Obama said. "It's my belief that this is exact time when the American people need to hear from the person who in approximately 40 days will be responsible for dealing with this mess, and I think that it is going to be part of the President’s job to deal with more than one thing at once."
I'm waiting for the explanation of how McCain's no longer able to walk and chew gum at the same time because he was a POW.
Also, consider the
timing of McCain's announcement against the conversations with Obama today on the subject.
And the last time someone cancelled a debate over a crisis, it was Carter against Reagan in 1980 because of the Iranian hostage situation. I'm trying to figure out how someone who isn't even on any of the finance committees and was one of the Keating Five could possibly need to head to DC and man the barricades when he's trailing in the polls and his party's being blamed for the problem in question... oh, wait. Nevermind.
