[Politics] Why I vote

Sep 08, 2008 01:03

I was aware that there were a lot of women and men who fought to make sure I could vote in this country long before I was born. It's my impression that far too many women have forgotten or not been told. This Snopes confirmation of the basic facts behind a chain letter making the rounds these days only reinforces that to me.

And men, your gender has always had the right in this country, granting your race and property-owning status as restricting factors over time that were eased and eliminated, some as recently as the 1960's here in the USA. But consider the plight of my gender and your darker-skinned comrades or ancestors. So many fought to have the right so many treat with disdain. I think it's a sign of mental decadence myself.
