21 + 1 reasons to watch 'Waking the Dead'

Jun 27, 2007 22:22

The Post Office here in Finland finally managed to get me my Series 4 of Waking The Dead the other day. And you know what that means: yes, a picspam! So, here is, in style of my past Murder In Suburbia picspam, 20 + 1 reasons why you should watch Waking The Dead:

The following includes spoilers for Series 3 and 4. And the quotations are genuine quotes, in case someone's wondering.

20+1 Reasons Why You Should Watch 'Waking The Dead'

1. Because Frankie and Mel are so doing it, which is a given.

Even when the team are huddled closely together, the two succeed in creating subtext. Frankie's innocent glance at Mel and...

...Mel is over the moon.

2. Because science says it all.

Frankie: What would you expect to find in your average blood cell?

Distracted by Mel.

Still distracted by Mel.

Huh?

Boyd: Red cells, white cells, and some other stuff. Beginning with 'P'.
Mel: [nonchalantly] Platelets.

Frankie: Well done, Mel.

Yeah, guess who's been teaching Mel science stuff.

3. Because Frankie can't stay away from Mel.

As soon as Mel arrives, Frankie automatically moves away from the doorway and towards her.

No, nobody noticed that.

4. Because Mel worries about Frankie.

There's a bomb Frankie has decided to dismantle (there's actually a good reason for it). Mel is not happy.

She fidgets while Frankie's inside, taking the bomb apart.

5. Because Frankie is a cow.

Mel: [to Frankie after she's successfully disabled the bomb] Why on earth did you do that?!

Frankie: [puppy eyes] Well, detonators need a power source, and they haven't built batteries that last for 20 years, no matter what they say.

Mel: [snorts] You cow.

6. Because Frankie is an adorable geek. A geek who has a crush on Mel.

Frankie: I found something very interesting. Take a look.
Mel: We have very different ideas of "very interesting".

Frankie is amused.

And leans in closer. What a great idea! Courting Mel by showing her samples of sand.

Infatuated. Totally.

7. Because Mel knows how to flatter.

When they're discussing whether there are any pleasant ways to die, Mel quips that yes, in the arms of a tall, dark, handsome stranger. And she smiles at Frankie as she says this.

She's no stranger to Mel, but Frankie gets the hint. Mel simply looks adoringly at her girlfriend.

8. Because when Frankie and Boyd get together, hilarity ensues.

Huh? What's that?

Oh, it's just Frankie, trying to pick a lock of a drink machine. She succeeds and looks triumphant, but becomes worried when Boyd turns up.

Boyd looks almost giddy and joins Frankie, saying how the machine owns him some serious money.

Frankie: I take the pounds, you take the 50p's.

I love this show.

9. Because Mel can't quite keep her eyes off of Frankie.

When the team enters the lab, Mel's eyes immediately spot her forensic scientist.

Who cares about Boyd when your girlfriend sits mere metres away?

10. Because feminism rules.

Frankie: [after finding out a male suspect has been arrested for indecent behaviour] I knew he was prick.

Frankie: Having been dragged out in the middle of night [by some forensic people], you can imagine I was bloody furious.

Mel: You go get them, girl.

I'd be bitter too if someone dragged my girlfriend out of bed in the middle of the night. Not that I have one, you know, but, whatever.

11. Because Frankie's shoes are nicely colourful.

Adorable. And note the way she sits; it's the Scribbs syndrome!

12. Because Frankie has a butch side.

Just coolly standing at the doorway, hands in her coat pockets.

Waiting for, who else but Mel?

13. Because Frankie and Mel like to stare at each other when they think no-one's watching.

Mel?

There you go.

14. Because Frankie always has a theory.

...or something like that. The cap was just too good to be ignored.

15. Because a suspect spooks Frankie.

Mel: We have a name for the man who spooked Frankie.
Frankie: I was not spooked!

Mel: *ignores*
Frankie: *pouts*

16. Because Mel thinks Frankie is adorable.

Awwww!

17. Because at times Frankie seems to think 'To hell with subtle!'

Of course she lays her hand on Mel's shoulder when she leaves.

18. Because Frankie always has a plan.

Again, I have nothing. Just too perfect a cap.

19. Because there's hugging involved.

They're immediately in each other's arms when Boyd announces Mel's promotion.

Frankie is so proud. Awww!

And they don't want to let go of each other, even when Grace wants to hug Mel as well.

Mel thinks she has the best girlfriend.

20. Because nobody messes with Frankie's girlfriend.

Boyd tells Mel to hammer a nail through a dead person's skull (guys, it actually makes sense when you watch the episode, honestly!). Mel looks frightened and refuses.

Frankie looks like she's about to run to Mel and tell Boyd to shove that nail in you-know-where.

21. Because it always comes back to the fact that Frankie & Mel are an item.

When Mel comes back to the unit after accidentally shooting an innocent man (oops?), Frankie is worried as hell.

Frankie: Hi, Mel.

Interesting that no-on else says a word, but Frankie immediately expresses her interest.

Mel: Hi.

Again, eyes only on Frankie.

Even after the others have moved on, Frankie is still looking at Mel with concern. Oh, it's love! ♥

I so need to write a ship_manifesto of this series.

Something I learned the other day: don't ever, under any circumstances, read your old journal entries. Unbelievably embarrassing! I can't believe the things I've written! I should just go and delete everything before January 2006. God.
