Well, I have to say that this week's Criminal Minds was one of the most far-fetched plots they've ever done - and that's counting the ridiculous taxidermy episode. Things also noted: 1) Will is still a dick, and 2) was Emily even in this episode? But Good Lord, my hatred for Will basically doubled, and it's not only because he and JJ still have as much chemistry together as two nightcrawlers.
First of all, the case. What. WHAT. I mean, the only redeeming quality to it was Reid actually acknowledging the fact that dumping bodies in tornados' paths is insanely difficult. But still. What the heck were they thinking?!
Right, I just needed to get that off my chest. Because OMG UNSUB DUMPING BODIES IN TWISTERS I CANNOT EVEN.
Anyway.
Will.
Bloody hell.
Okay, so I recently discussed this at length with
kayryn, and we both agreed that the main reason this thing between JJ and him is so ridiculous is because he acts like a dick most of the time. Remember "In Heat" (I've desperately tried to forget, though), how he simply swooped in and told the team, against JJ's will, that she was pregnant? Well, I would've dumped his sorry ass the second he crossed that line.
Similarly, in this episode, he's the martyr, basically blaming JJ for abandoning her family. Yeah, because it's not like you need a steady income or anything. Jesus.
Will: Things were better when you were at Pentagon.
[...]
JJ: Fine, I'll tell them I can't come in.
Will: Don't do that.
JJ: I was supposed to have time-off, Henry's not feeling well.
Will: It's all right. You should go, I'll take care of it.
Will, GDIF. His behaviour is wrong on so many levels, I don't even know where to start. Besides the whole martyr act, he's complaining about something JJ has no way of changing; also she's, apparently, the only one with a job, so just from the practical point of view his bitchyness is completely uncalled for.
Just, UGH. It makes me feel physically ill to even screencap the douche. AND WHAT'S WITH THE SERIAL KILLER BEARD?
So, this week, Emily's wardrobe is slightly better than what it has been lately.
Nice, but what's up with the weird leather patches? Also, the watch. It keeps bugging me.
So, Henry's taken to a hospital, and JJ & Will share a somewhat strained phone conversation. Will's arrogantly trying to be the hero again, and why would he tell JJ not to come home in the middle of a case when her only child is sick? C'mon! Also, I think it's pretty telling that a) Will actually doesn't call JJ by her first name, not once, and b) there's no obligatory 'I love yous' when they hang up.
I need a witty Garcia line to save me from Will!
Garcia: [answering the phone] PG at your service, don't let the name fool you.
Hee! Thank you.
The only Emily/JJ moment arrives when JJ isn't able to get any flights back home due to the weather.
JJ: Flights are canceled because of the weather.
Emily: How's Henry? [A/N: of course it's Emily who asks]
JJ: He's headed home, finally released him.
[Emily smiling at JJ]
OMG, that smile. ♥
The episode ends (case? what case?) with JJ first talking to Will and then reading a bedtime story to Henry on the phone. The JJ/Will conversation can be understood in so many ways, because JJ's "I'm sorry about everything" could easily include that fact that their relationship simply isn't working.
But anyway, the very ending is actually really sweet, and A.J.'s (yes, A.J.'s) son is really, really adorable.
Awwwww.
Next week: Kidnappings that somehow involve Garcia. A hit-or-miss episode, I'm guessing.
Well, that was a whole lot snarkier than I initially intended. I blame it all on the dude with the beard.
