Despair! I've been trying to come to terms with last Sunday's
general election results in Finland (seriously, what's wrong with people?!) by completely immersing myself in fandom. I've been in a real A.J. Cook kick lately and, as luck would have it, I finally had a chance to see Misconceptions, a film she did a couple of years back.
Long story short, A.J. plays a deeply religious conservative woman who receives a message from God, instructing her to be a surrogate mother for a gay couple. It's not actually quite as "out there" as the summary might suggest, and at least I was entertained by the film. All in all, I was 90% amused and 10% freaked out, because fundamentalism is RIDICULOUSLY scary.
A.J.'s character, Miranda Bliss, has a catering business with her sister. The business is called Fishes and Loaves, in true biblical style.
The religiousness of the small Texan town is obvious, and the Christian fair pictured above has such stalls as "Crafty Believers", "Rise and Shine Christian Fitness" and "Hair Care in a Christian Environment".
So, Miranda, who's been estranged from her husband after their son died years before, gets a sign from God and it's all downhill from there.
A.J. looks fabulous, and even if her southern accent wavers a little at times, she does a fine job in this drama/comedy role.
Probably the most amusing scene of the movie, one that I simply have to mention, is the one in which Miranda has decided to tell her husband that she's promised to carry a gay couple's child (yeah, she doesn't tell beforehand. Hijinx ensue).
Mirand: [sliding the doors open] Parker, I have the most wonderful news!
Parker: [turns around, revealing a "SAY NO GAY MARRIAGE" sign] What's that hun?
Miranda: I... [closing the doors again] Um, we can talk about it later.
Such a typical joke, but I LOLed.
Anyway, I don't want to give too much away, but the movie is worth seeing, definitely. A.J. is great, and the film does carry a very positive message. Plus, as always, A.J. is the hottest thing.
A total JJ look, too. ♥
As for Grey's Anatomy, they keep churning out adorable promo pics like
this (humongous spoilers, people), or
this, and making me excited to watch the show again. Shonda Rhimes is evil. And Jessica Capshaw is way too adorable for her own good.
Also,
kayryn brought the following brilliance to my attention and it absolutely needs to be shared here as well, because fan service FTW! I haven't watched Desperate Housewives in years, but this clip sort of makes me want to again. Background: Carlos has forbidden Gaby from seeing Bree. There's a chance encounter between the two women, which brings the LOLz of the femslashy kind.

There's no way this was unintentional. Kudos, Mr Cherry, kudos.
