"Like a genie in a bottle. Poof!"

Dec 10, 2009 19:24

"Twice a week after work, I put on a totally realistic bear costume and hang out in the park." Things I never thought I'd hear Taye Diggs say. Better off Ted, I love you SO VERY MUCH.

But Criminal Minds. First of all, it seems like we will finally get that JJ-centric backstory episode we've eagerly been waiting for ever since "North Mammon" happened three(!) seasons ago. Sheesh, about bloody time!

Secondly, the second to last (new) episode before the Christmas break aired last night, and I can't believe they managed to do it without even a smidge of femslash. I mean, that was just pathetic. But what the episode lacked in substance femslash, it made up in pretty colours Emily being a total badass.

- Is it just the file I downloaded, or was there no opening credits this week?

- They brought up the pirates play from Season 1! Remember how Hotch found the pirate hat from a random box in the garage? I love the continuity so very much.

- Are Gina and Agent Anderson a couple? That'd be beyond cute.

- Nashville! Okay, for the first time I actually spotted places I've been to myself (from the general city footage they always show) - I have a million photos of me in front of the Nashville Hard Rock Café.

- The moment Emily mentioned that the victims were all brunette and successful, I knew they'd draw a parallel to her. And boy, did they ever!

- It's still shocking to see Strauss as a good guy. Frankly, it's quite unsettling, because she's supposed to be the token hate!character. Once again, this show does it right.

Give me moooore!

1. Adorable with a capital 'A'.

My God, how cute is Jack? Cheek-pinchingly cute.

Casting the role was obviously done right, since one could easily believe he's the love child of Thomas Gibson and Meredith Monroe.

2. I bet I could just drown in them.

In JJ's eyes, that is. They are ridiculously blue.

Beautiful array of recessive genes right there. Try to ignore Will the Bastard's forehead that keeps pushing itself into the shots.

3. And this is how it's done.

Emily profiling the crime scene is nothing short of hot. She's just so professional and composed and completely in her element. I could watch these two scenes over and over again.

Emily noticing that the guy knows his etiquette = nice, but subtle, reference to Emily's highbrow background and upbringing.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love this show for keeping its characters, well, in character?

I find it really fascinating that the case truly gets to Emily. She even uses herself as an example ("I would"), which is never a good thing. But is it simply the fact that the victims remind her of herself, or did I miss something vital here?

Also, so very amusing that the hand thing applies even when she's wearing gloves.

4. Oh, the camera man. You're too good to me.

There's a lot of interesting camera angles in this episode (who directed this?). And then there's yet another 'let's slide the camera up Emily's entire torso' shot. I couldn't be happier.

Also, can I just say that Emily looks absolutely gorgeous in that last cap. *unf*

5. Amusing cameo is amusing.

I love playing 'Spot the Familiar Faces', and this time it took me a while to place her:

Although she's been in basically everything, I suddenly realised that she was in Blind Justice, the worst show ever to grace our TV screens. Hilarious.

6. The most delicious line of the episode goes to...

...Emily. It's impossible to put in words how brilliant the following line is, because you need to hear it in order to spot the awesomeness.

Emily: This guy is educated, intelligent, proper. He's downright gentleman.

The way Paget delivers the last part is utterly fabulous. The tone of her voice is just right, an interesting mixture of neutrality and sarcasm.

7. Well, hello there.

Yes, I'm incredibly shallow. But JJ looks so very fine, I can't even...!

She looks amazing in black and with the gun attached to her hip. And the way she walks? Yum.

But how funny is it that she shows up at the police station alone? I find it somewhat amusing. The mighty BAU. One person.

8. Agent Prentiss will kick your ass if need be.

A judo kick. A judo kick?? Out of nowhere! I love this show! And she even bares her teeth, she's so ENRAGED.

I'm rather turned on right now. Ahem. "I could hump a tree," as Karen Walker would say. Can you tell I'm not getting any?

But anyway.

Really, the best character ever. ♥

9. What *is* that?

Garcia has a red ball. I have no idea what it is, but I want it.

One of those stress thingies maybe? Well, whatever it is, it's cool.

10. Don't EVER piss off Emily Prentiss.

She will fuck you up. Indeed, she will.

Woah. I died a beautiful, beautiful death. The gun simply gives the perfect finishing touch to it all. Also, it's sort of funny how Morgan and Rossi don't seem at all bothered by this. "Oh yes, Emily. Do go on, harassing the unsub."

But boy, did Emily's trademark compartmentalisation fail big time. It has a been a while since we've seen her as "out" of control ("Demonology"?). Fascinating, how this isn't the first time this season that Emily has cracked - coincidence or not?

+1 Bonus round.

Just because Emily is, once again, criminally beautiful throughout the episode.

I suppose it has also now been proven that she can wear every frigging colour under the sun and look just as perfect.

Next week: OMG!!! For some reason, I thought this episode was going to air after Christmas. But seriously, oh my God.

The sad, fandom-related news of the week (in case someone isn't aware of this yet): Fátima Baeza and Patricia Vico are both leaving Hospital Central. I suffered a momentary OTP!panic attack as I found out about Fátima's departure first - fortunately, there's now a chance of Maca & Esther leaving together and living happily ever after. Still, it'll be the end of an era. *sigh*

And finally, Portia de Rossi was on The View (seriously, why is anyone still watching this show?) last week and, basically, flipped Elizabeth Hasselbeck the proverbial finger. It was glorious.

I cannot believe Hasselbeck brought up the women's rights issue as a comparison. But wah! Portia = ♥
