Oh, wow. This was really interesting! The alternate history you've given Mary here is just chilling. I'm not sure what Gabriel's point in all of this was, but it looks like he really did pull Mary from her world to our canon one. I loved her seeing her boys and what they've grown up into, and I love Sam and Dean's differing responses: Sam, as usual, is thrilled beyond words for the supernatural to apparently be going his way, while Dean just doesn't trust any of it, or her. They all three break my heart - and Mary's, too, it looks like.

Very, very interesting stuff. :)

I wanted to give the impression that Gabriel does what he does just to mess with the angels' plans, but I know I pretty much failed at writing him, despite the really great advice my beta gave me. :-/

I really liked the artist's prompt about the alternative-reality version of Mary, who is aware of her destiny and tries to change it, and runs into grown-up Sam and Dean in the process. Thanks for reading!

FWIW, Gabriel is hard. I've never had to write him and don't really have any ambitions to, because IMO he's a pretty opaque character. And I don't think you wrote him badly! I just wasn't always sure of his motivations. Not the same thing. :)

And as I said, Mary and the boys were great. Poor Winchesters.

He really is! I usually rewatch episodes with the characters I'm focusing on before/during writing the fic, but I didn't with Gabriel; one lives and learns. *g* Possibly young!Mary came out better because I watched her episodes again. I've always been more fixated on her older self before, and I kind of still am, but it was fun trying to get into Mary Campell's head, too.

Thanks! :-)

Fascinating. I'm so intrigued by the idea of an alternative scenario where everything was out in the open (well... um. For a certain angelic definition of "everything", of course) and Mary's known as some means by which the world gets saviours of some sort. And Anna with her as a guide/insurance; and Gabriel, screwing with things; and how damned sad it is that Sam and Dean can look her in the eye and say, with full knowledge of what they've been through, that not having them at all would have been better. I really liked her interactions with the boys.

And I rather loved having a Mary story, too, where it was all about her and her choices :).

I really liked the idea of a story about Mary and her choices, too. :-) And that part in canon is pretty heartbreaking, when Sam and Dean tell her that they're okay with never being born. It would have been pretty intriguing if she'd been allowed to keep her memories of that. I loved the alternative reality prompt and the parallels with Sarah Connor (especially at the end of the first film, in which she's recording a message for her son, who isn't born yet).

Thanks for reading! ♥

I really enjoyed this! I love the idea of the Supernatural out in the open (or at least parts of it), and I thought the Sam-Mary-Dean interactions rang very true indeed, for later versions of Sam and Dean.

Oh this is such a cool concept! I really love Mary's stubborn toughness and her interactions with Sam and Dean, and Gabriel being a dick. I also enjoyed the references to The Little Prince :)
