So I seriously love this prompt but that mostly because stalking the swim team made me laugh. I'd do it but I know jack shit about gymnastics :( so someone please fill!!!
The first day of high school is all kinds of wonderful scariness for the girls. They clutch to each other for moral support, but also so they’re not jostled apart by upperclassmen and wayward backpacks. Everything looks new, though visibly deteriorating. Both guys and girls are twice as glamorous and geeky depending on which category they fit into. Lockers are bigger and teachers appear older from looking meaner.
They don’t want to be fresh meat, but that’s exactly what they feel like.
“I heard there’s, like, a hazing ritual for the freshman.”
“I thought that was like only for the football team!”
“Someone told me that we have to serve the swim team.”
“Like, food?”
“Ohmygosh! Is that Nastia Liukin?!”
It’s a scene practically taken right out of Mean Girls. Even as teeny freshman, they would be absolutely stupid to not recognize resident senior ‘It Girl’ Nastia Liukin as she practically bounces in stride and shines walking down the hallway. Boyfriend, swimmer, and big man on campus Ryan Lochte has his arm slung

Once they settle into a comfortable routine, they dispel many myths about high school. They won’t be hazed; they don’t have to serve anyone anything, and so on.
Their fascination with the swim team, though, exponentially grows.
The girls sit in the food court at the mall one weekend. Smoothies in hand and phones out, they animatedly chatter about homework, boys, and the upcoming masquerade dance.
“I’ve heard wild stories about what happens at masquerades!”
“Should we like coordinate what we’re going as?”
“It’s a masquerade. Not a costume party.”
“Yeah, but-”
“Ohmygod, look!” McKayla hisses and tries to discretely point. Out of a store come Nathan Adrian and Matt Grevers. They’re overly fascinated at interpreting the swimmers’ lives outside the pool. It’s like observing them in an unnatural habitat and the girls want to know everything - what they do, how they behave, who they talk to, what they talk about, etc
