Menial jobs and bike rides

Rode my bike to work this morning and after nearly an hour, my face still looks like a tomato. Sigh. I hate having fair skin. Still, I feel most accomplished and exercise-y. *pats self on head*

The weekend was good. Again, busy but good.
Dace’s party went off with nary a hitch. Some of the kids though - good gravy! I wanted to smack their little arses and a half! Still, Dace had a good day, and quite a haul and all the mums were so impressed with Mandi and I’s cake that Mandi was very smug about it.

I spent yesterday white-ing out wrongly named business cards and today I'm scratching the old company name off pens. Riveting work. Still, I'm getting paid for it so I can't complain.

TJ cat arrived yesterday too - JoJo, who is apparently queen of the castle. She made her presence known again in the household to Stevie and the two little puppies but we’ve decided to keep her and Vera separated because I can see bloodshed occurring (most likely on Vera’s face) and I don’t want any mad rushes to the vet at 8:30 at night.
I’m going to wait until there’s a vet in residence before doing that. I’m not as green as I’m cabbage looking.

Went to see Casino Royale last night.
I enjoyed this one. A review I read likened it to Batman Begins - that it reinvented the franchise. And it did on many levels.

This James has just reached 007 status and his first 2 kills are a lot of fun. Especially the throw-away lines. It’s a lot dirtier and the fights aren’t choreographed and there were hardly any gadgets in sight (except for various microchips and the occasional mini-defibrillator).
Bond is also sloppy. He blows up half an embassy for chrissake, after an awesome chase scene. And he seems to be constantly leaving bodies around for people to find them. There’s no single shot to the head and barely any blood with this Bond.

I thought Daniel Craig did a damn good job as the new 007. I can also see why the puritans would freak out about it. But he brings a rawness which is very cool and fun to watch.
The beginning chase, the fight at the airport, the stairwell scene, the poisoning, the torture - all were awesome. The plot’s a little convoluted but then again, this is Bond and if you didn’t have a convoluted plot, it wouldn’t be James.
However despite all the coolness, shockingly, I found myself cheering for the old mysognistic, sleeps-with-anything-that-even-resembles-a-woman Bond. The end was soppy and I was waiting for Vesper to leave.
It’s nice to see Bond happy (in-love-happy, not just-been-shagged-satisfied) but ultimately, he’s like Angel. Happy = Boring. Sure, give him his lovey-dovey moment but after a while you start throwing popcorn and demanding he get on with more destruction.

I wasn’t that impressed with the end - many people have said it should have stopped at the 2 hour mark instead of continuing on.
I agree.
I could see what they were trying to do: show how Bond turns into such an ass-hat. But it could have been done much less clumsily and a lot more satisfyingly.
But I must say - the very last scene? *Truly* awesome and Daniel Craig looks spectacular in that suit.

Apart from that, we’ve got a busy day ahead of us (if the internet starts working and I can even post this).
I have also become completely enamoured of Justin Long aka the geek from Galaxy Quest and Lindsay Lohan’s love interest (hey, alliteration!) in Herbie: Fully Loaded, which I watched some of over the weekend and actually enjoyed.
He has definitely grown up pretty and I am waaaaay appreciating it!
I enjoyed hauling out Dodgeball again and getting Herbie and Jeepers Creepers on DVD yesterday. So I can have Justin fests! I’m also constantly on the look-out for the new Mac ads cause he’s in them too. Squeee!

Jenny and TJ are coming home on Thursday, which means I have to clean out my stuff from TJ’s cupboard and find a place for it all. That’s cool - I need to do it anyway.
I have also decided that Vera is a very good alarm clock. Except with the cold nose in the ear and excessive licking. I’m looking forward to seeing her with TJ’s dog Bruce, her brother. Apparently they were very affectionate when they were smaller (Bruce now weighs in at over 30kgs and he’s not even a year old - oi) so I hope there’ll be a lovely reunion on Thursday.

Man I’m tired. And I still have 7 hours and shopping to do before I’m finished for the day. Sigh. I think I’ll indulge in some bananas. They’ll give me an energy boost.
