The hills are alive

I saw Julie Andrews this weekend.

It wasn't unexpected, but it was pretty cool. She's written a childrens book and was at the Festival of Books promoting and signing. I happened to be working at a craft booth in the children's area (don't even ask how I ended up there) and the little stand where she was signing was less than twenty feet away. So I got to gape at Julie Andrews for a while.

Which, for a musical theatre buff like me, was pretty much the coolest thing.

And then her entourage gave me a bookbag. Which I will now keep forever. Not that it's signed or anything, but still.

Festival of Books was otherwise unremarkable. I had a good time, am now much more familiar with the UCLA campus and have discovered a heretofore unknown ability to be cheerful and helpful for hours on end. Whoda thunk it? I worked at the information booths all day yesterday, and the second booth I worked at was being staffed by some very cute college boys as well as me. Sophomores and a junior, to be precise. And because I am not carved from ice or dead, I responded to the flirting, but all the while I was thinking 'Wow. So young. That was me, not so long ago.'

So now I'm back at work, plugging away at the overtime. I know now that I don't need to get up at 6:30 - I can go back to sleeping until 6:50 and still be out the door on time, especially if I do the food prep the night before. This is a good thing to discover as I didn't get much extra sleep this weekend. Nor did I get to the gym. Today I head back with renewed determination.

And the best news is this. The firm settled a really big case a few months back - the biggest they've ever had. And today they gave out bonuses. Mid-year, unanticipated bonuses. Good bonuses. Not quite as good as Christmas, but really good.

Now if only the old apartment will relinquish the stranglehold it has on the security deposit. It's been 30 days damn it. Give me back my money.
