I am finding myself in the mood for some slightly schmoopy, sad-happy romance - sort of, girl meets boy, girl doesn't think she's good enough, boy turns out to be brilliant at making her feel good enough. Anyone have any recs? (I guess Bridget Jones and Persuasion would be the obvious ones, but I'd rather not go back and reread when there must be ( Read more... )

Not shmoopy, exactly, but have you read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern? Lovely, dreamy, fantastical book, and it definitely has the happy-sad romance thing going.

Ooh, that sounds great, especially as I recently read and loved (and was brokenhearted by) South Riding. Thanks!

The latest Nora Roberts book I just read fits that description. The Witness. There's a socially awkward, emotionally closed-off, super-genius woman being wooed by a guy who thinks she's just the greatest. It's not her best book, but it is cute.

I have enjoyed reading some YA books on my Kindle. The first one is Perfect Chemistry...rich white girl falls for gang banger mexican boy. There are 2 sequals as well, but can't remember the names off hand. I'm thinking the author is simone elkeles
