1. Making progress on original writing and fanfic, yay.

2. Lots of Harry/Ginny goodness at the Changing Seasons masterlist, yay.

3. I've been so busy recently with theatre-going and generally having a social life, I thought maybe I wouldn't be that bothered about the writers' festival this year. But then they released the programme. John Burnside is all over the schedule, Michael Pollan is talking food ethics, Hermione Lee is talking about Wharton and Woolf, there are discussions on the future of feminism, war fiction, and memory loss/dying in fiction. So basically I'll be camping out there for a few days.

4. I am currently reading two books in which the heroine has sex ONCE and ends up pregnant. In both cases, the girls are in their teens and live fairly simple, healthy lives, and are therefore likely to be pretty fertile. But as far as I know, the average couple takes several months to conceive - I've read one statistic which said the average time to conceive was two years. I know someone who took nearly five (mind, I also know someone who took about a week. Twice). Anyway. I know getting pregnant the first time makes a good story, and I'm sure it happens occasionally, but surely it's a cliche that editors should be knocking on the head?

5. Is it me, or is friending someone who has recently died a little weird?

swf, books, reading
