to IUD or not

So you probably have no idea who I am because I'm basically a lurker, but so sorry to hear about your headaches. I used condoms for years because I am a smoker and didn't want to deal with hormones, but I just got an IUD back in early February. I got the non-hormonal kind. FYI- the insertion process is apparently pretty different for everyone. You might want to check out the IUDdivas community here. I haven't had kids and my doctor didn't tell me to take ibuprofen or xanax or anything beforehand (which in retrospect I should have). While I love love love the ease and no thought, no muss no bother part of having an IUD, insertion can be pretty painful. I had the worst cramps of my life the couple of hours after insertion for me. Like I wanted to throw up kind of cramps. Also, I'm still experiencing random cramps (although those are getting better) and spotting from time to time still and my periods are heavier and longer now. On the other hand, my bf only ever felt the strings once and said it wasn't painful, just weird. I got lucky and they curled up back behind my cervix almost immediately. I love my IUD and would totally do it again, but it does take some getting used to.
