Y'all. Ohmigahd. Okay, I can't recall if I've mentioned my subway guy at all/lately, but the story is that there is a RILLYRILLY cute guy who is always at my station in the morning. He stands about 20 feet away from where I do and gets on the train a car behind me. He looks all artsy and scruffy and adorable.
We always sort of looked at each other and did the smile, nod, hi I acknowledge you on this platform with me -- this went on for uh, months. I know I KNOW I am just kinda bad at walking up to guys and starting conversation.
So about three weeks ago, I had gotten to the platform early and he walked by me and upped the ante by saying, "good morning". Did not break stride, just "good morning" and kept on going. And I, in an embarrassingly breathy and caught-off-guard voice breathed out, "hhhhhello". I facepalmed all the way to work.
Two weeks ago, he got even bolder and waved to me as we both got on the train. I got very giddy about this. I know, right, he only WAVED. Call in the Pathetic Police. Anyway, so he waved. I told myself that the next time I saw him I would go up to him and at least say hello like a normal person.
And then I didn't see him ever again.
I started to think, wow, that wave must have been the wave of GOODBYE I am leaving the neighborhood or perhaps getting a NEW JOB but it was Very Nice smiling at you for three months.
BUT!! OH MY GOD. This morning. This morning I arrive at the station all sweaty because it's stupidly hot and humid in New York right now, so my hair is frizzy and sweat has beaded on my upper lip and my shirt is sticking up underneath my arms. My skirt is all hiked up funny because I was walking so fast, so I'm tugging at it and trying to wipe my face off, and I look up and THERE HE IS OMG.
And he raises his arm up over his head in what I swear is the most HAPPY WAVE I have ever seen and like, YELLS at me, "long time no see!"
Okay, so at this point my heart starts pounding and I start sweating even more but I am a good girl and I walk right up to him and I TALKED TO HIM.
\o/
I'm sure I babbled and said inane things but the end of the story is that: HE ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED MY EMAIL ADDRESS.
Yay Progress!
