Wah, your post is like a review from Singapore Tatler's Best Restaurants Guide! I reviewed 22 restaurants for the guide this year and your review is very good! I had some bad experiences at Cherry Garden, and had to give them a poorer rating. The food quality is high but so are the prices, and in the balance, I don't think it's worth it. There are other restaurants with the same price range and with even betetr food and service.

Service was a real problem at Cherry Garden. While the wait-staff are cordial and fast, they are also prone to being extraordinarily careless. Your disappearing reservation is just one example. When i was there, we ordered Hot and Sour Soup and we asked the waiter if it contained pork, as my sis-in-law is Muslim. He said no, and we asked him to double check with the chef to be sure. He came back and said no. We asked him if he was very sure, as Hot and Sour soup usually contains pork and again he said no, this version was made with chicken. So we ordered the soup and happily slurped it. In the middle of the meal, the Captain over and suddenly tld my sister in law that she should not drink the rest of the soup because it contained pork! We were so astonished. They quickly removed the soup and apologised, but it was a really bad gaffe.

They also completely forgot two dishes and we waited and waited, and when we asked they said the kitchen was very busy, so we waited. And waited. Then we asked again and they casualy said "oh did you order that? It's not ordered. You want it?" Realy outrageous, considerin the bill for five people came to over $500!

The best Chinese restaurants in Singapore are: (drumroll)

- Min Jiang at Goodwood Park Hotel
- Hua Ting at Orchard Hotel

These two are excellent, 9 out of 10 rating for food and service.

The other very good ones are:

- Golden Peony at Conrad Centennial Hotel
- Crystal Jade Golden Palace at Paragon
- Crystal Jade Palace at Ngee Ann City

These three get 8 out of 10 for food. Service standards vary.

Happy Eating!

:-)
