BIA's are generally about +/-6% in terms of reliability which isn't all that far from good old skinfold. But it's very dependent on fluid status as well which annoys me a lot cos I drink way too much coffee and pee too much. I've become very cautious on validation of BIA machines after reading their studies which were sponsored by the manufacturers that of course showed that it was reliable but when I've used them, the reliability ain't that great. And personally, I trust the good old calipers under the hands of an experienced technician. In research settings, they still use DEXAs or underwater weighing for 2 compartment model of body composition but I've been involved in research which uses MRI for multi-compartment models of body composition that tells you so much more. It's pretty fascinating.

heh.. yeah.
but this particular new body analyser has been validated to be at least as good as DEXA in some research trials and protocols... its a new 8-point analyser.
