What's really sad is that results with those kind of p-values probably get published a lot more often than I care to imagine. For those that don't know what I p-value is, just lol along with me. :P
Hey, I'm one of Leo's friends, and I occasionally come across your journal. I was also a conservation biologist at one point (and I still think it's an awesome discipline), so I've been meaning to add you on LJ.
Random pedantic comment: That's not p, but rho, the correlation coefficient. A rho of 0.56 suggests a decently strong correlation. On the other hand, a p-value of 0.56 should, as you imply, never be considered significant.
I had to send this around to all my grad-student friends. PHDcomics rock. I had a friend over just yesterday who's starting her quals (late quals, not early quals) that said she's heard it's a classic place to waste time while studying for quals. :)
That's very, very true... god knows I've wasted a lot of time going through their galleries when I should be doing my thesis... :P But yeah, this comic is teh awesome! I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates grad-student humor.

Care to tell us what A is?

My immediate response is, of course, THE LION KING... The only problem with that is that the p-value's probably in the range of .05 to .10 :P
Of course, "Kiwa" is another likely answer... ;)
I must admit, grandma's wearing tinfoil hats to ward me off makes me smile on the inside a little :P
