It's almost over...

On Thursday, I said goodbye to my prof here at the lab, we both got a little emotional and didn't really look at each other. She did say she enjoyed working with me but quite likely she says that to every Erasmus-student who passes by. Yesterday was my last day, but that wasn't so bad because I only went for 2 hours and I still had oodles to do afterwards to keep my mind off leaving. At 16h, Heike passed by to say the last goodbyes, that one was a bit hard...

Yesterday was cleaning day - how does one person accumulate so much paper over the course of three months? I swear I lugged out 4 bags of articles, magazines (I gave my Cosmos to Francesca, because I always find it a shame to throw glossies away), notes and whatnot - I don't even know where I kept it all, it's not like I've got a lot of space. And afterwards we ate at Maria's- great food, great company. I feel like I really got to know all these people, while normally it takes me years to open up to others. I know that Magda likes miniatures (cars, planes, stuff like that), that Veronika is going grey already and has to dye her hair, that Heike's friends are all marrying off and getting children but that she doesn't feel ready for it yet. I know about Martin's love for fruit compotes, Coraline's adoration of all things coconut-flavoured and Silvia's talent for painting. And while that's all really limited, snippets of life rather than real knowledge, I still feel like I've made some friends here. And my darling Italians... Francesca the HP-freak and Francesca my singing-partner... I'll miss everybody so much!

Right, I'm pulling myself together right now and am going out to do a bit of last-minute-shopping, maybe even try to go to Croix-Rousse or Fourvière again. Yesterday I got the deposit back we had to pay for the room, which means I've got €€€ to spend! This afternoon I'm seeing my parents, which is good, and tonight we're going out, which is even better. And tomorrow evening I'm back at the choir, and life's back to normal.

On an unrelated note: are Belgians going crazy? About a month ago, a boy got stabbed to death in the busiest train station in Brussels because they wanted to steal his iPod, and yesterday an 18-year-old shot a little girl and her black nanny. I don't want to go home to that madness!
