This is a very big rant, written while I was still angry after watching the show. So read at your own risk. I don't expect anyone to agree with me about any of it, just please respect that I can have my own feelings.
So I hate like 95% of this episode. Oliver is one of my favorite characters on the show and normally I'd be happy to see lots of him, but in this? I mean seriously, haven't we seen this episode before just with Lionel and Martha taking Oliver and Lois places? Because the entire time I was watching this parts of Mercy kept popping into my head. And I was not a fan of Mercy, I thought it was total rip off. And I don't know what to think about Chloe orchestrating the entire thing. For one, Roulette is supposed to be a villian. So why is she helping the good guys? And as much as I love Chloe, if I was Oliver even if I knew it was done with good intent, I'd be like WTF! you put me through that so I'd be a hero again! You couldn't think of anything else? *shakes head*
Once again their was like zero Chloe in the episode. She didn't even appear until the episode was half over and her first scene left me wanting to hurt someone. First she was only on the screen for like two seconds before somehow the conversation got turned to Clois. There was no reason for Clark to bring that up. It didn't add anything to the scene. It was not important in that moment. And then somehow neither Clark or Chloe (who's supposed to be very smart) could figure out how a time traveler could be alive in the present. She was only supposed to be from a year from the future and they know that. So what's hard for them to figure out? Ughh...Smallville has this need to dumb down its characters so plotlines will work and it completely flustrates me.
And the Clois...Will we ever get an episode were Clois isn't shoved down our throats? Because I for one would really like one. I used to like the idea of Clois. It wasn't my favorite ship, but I liked it. Way more than I ever did Clana. But now, now whenever Lois and Clark are both in the same scene I cringe. Repeatedly. What I liked about Clois originally is that it looked their was going to be a slow progression where you could watch them fall in love with each other, possibly even just see all the potential they would have without ever seeing it. In season eight I thought they advanced the storyline a little too fast, but it wasn't enough to upset me. This season however, I feel like we are no longer watching a television show about Clark Kent. We're watching one specifically about the Clois relationship and that is not what I signed up for.
The episode was almost redeemed by the Chloe/Oliver moment at the end. They were all smiles and he held her hand and I was squeeing the entire time, my inner Chlollie shipper was doing a happy dance perfectly content to ignore the rest of the episode and just focus on this one scene. And then they ruined it because they felt the need to put the Oliver/Lois scene right after that. Which I would have been fine with if it ended the Lois fasination they gave Oliver this season, because this was the perfect point to do it in my opinion. But they didn't, they left it wide open still. Which flustrates me completey because they're so intent on Clois this season, why do they need another person to be in love with her? It makes no sense.
I did like the next to last scene between Oliver and Clark. For all the bad in this episode I am very glad to have the green arrow back. His arch was not as bad as I thought it would be, and it was nice to see the death of someone actually effecting people on Smallville, but I prefer my Ollie as a hero. I've missed that side of him. His line about Clark looking ridiculous totally made me laugh. At least Oliver's willing to point that out to him. Somebody needs too.
And then next weeks preview....Whenever I think about this episode I try to remember all the pretty Chloe promo pictures I saw and focus on those. Maybe Chloe will get more than two seconds of screen time. (My optimisim is still fighting despite Smallville's attempts to crush it completely.) I get that a lot of people are excited about the Clois relationship and I respect their opinion. We all like different things and if Clois is your cup of tea, well then good for you because your getting a huge cup of it each episode. But I want one episode, ONE, that has absolutely nothing to do with their relationship. Is that really too much to ask?
