yesterday night was the Civil banquet. you know, the kind of thing where everyone in your faculty including professors dress up, pay lots of money to have dinner at a great dining hall and listen to people speak about random things. it was open bar. it was also $45.00. i didn't go.
actually, most of the people in my class didn't go. instead, we all went out to a (few) pubs/bars and spent less than $10 on beer and drinks and got to know each other. it was actually a whole lot of fun. it's sort of crazy that i've spent more time with them this year than i have with jamie probably and i really didn't know any of them that well. for example, did i know that chelsea had been to china, morocco, switzerland, germany (basically everywhere) and had moved every two years since she was born because her parents are diplomats? nope. didn't know that linda wasn't raised by her parents until she was 7. i just didn't know any personal facts about anyone, and no one knew much about me either. we spend all this time together but most of it is discussing forces and structures, doing assignments and labs, generally just complaining about how much sleep we need, not really getting to know each other. last night was fun. i know a lot more about the group of people that i'm spending my undergrad with and i've found out that they're a lot of fun.
screw the banquet, we'll go next year.
