Oktober Trip 2009 Day 00
I got off work at 3:30 but expected that I would not be on my way at the usual time of 4:30. We had some trouble because my parents didn't want my daughter's friend Danielle to come over. I understand because my daughter didn't exactly plan it well but still it seemed kind of petty on their part. Who knows but in the end we got everything together and got going. We headed out of town by 4:50.
I had hoped to sleep on the drive up and set up my laptop to play music since my MP3 player is essentially toast unless it's on the base at home. Since my computer was up and running I just started writing out journal entries and that took the entire trip to Longview so I never got any sleep. :(
We got to Tacoma around 6:30 and drove by the house to see if anyone was home. I didn't expect to see anyone since we hadn't said anything about coming up. I didn't know if I was even going to be traveling on that day. I saw that Darren's car was there but decided not to just drop in. Instead we headed to dinner and I called from there. Darren said that Erik would be working until 6:30 and not home until 8pm. We decided to just get dinner and check back when we were done.
Dinner went until 8pm and so we called before we left. Erik wasn't answering so we figured that was it. Just before we headed out he called us back. He was still in Tukwilla so I knew we wouldn't be catching up with him this time and just planned to meet up with him on our way back through Sunday.
I took over driving from Tacoma and we were on our way. The drive was fairly uneventful. We passed a number of construction projects including having all traffic down to one lane each somewhere on the west side of the mountains. Because it was so late it wasn't an issue for us.
We stopped at Indian John Hill for a break and got some Hot Chocolate. It was a nice night even though it was a little cold. :) Somewhere near Ellensburg we switched drivers and I had Bo drive the rest of the way.
I had planned to sleep for the duration of the drive but just before we got to the exit Bo woke me up. Apparently they had closed the exit down for paving but didn't bother to notify people back at the previous exit. I was grumpy from being woken up but tried to make the best of it. I figured we would just hit the next U-turn. Well Bo drove right past it. -_- So we headed to the next one. This was close enough to Road O for us to see that they had a detour sign there (but not at the first exit!) -_-
We arrived at the house around midnight. I wanted to go back to bed but was awake so I got online for a brief time before heading back to sleep.
