The Passing of Bo's Half Brother
I got a call today as I was getting ready for bed. It was Bo's mom and I could tell that something was really wrong the minute I answered the phone. At first I thought something happened to his half sister Chris, but it was the other half sibling Brett. I got Bo as quick as I could and told him his brother had died and that his mom was on the phone.
Bo talked with his mom for a few minutes and then got off the phone. Bo was conflicted between being upset at the loss and angry at his brother for being so stupid in life. See Brett was an alcoholic and drug addict for as long as Bo can remember. Rehab and jail never straightened him out. So it was little surprise to find out that he died of a Heroin overdose. Bo tried to act like it didn't effect him but he couldn't cover it all up. There isn't much anyone can do or say…Brett led his life to this conclusion but at the same time he was still Bo's brother.
Bo talked about it for a little bit with very little in the way of nice stuff to say. He said his mom would call back to tell him when she would be down. I asked what he wanted to do if the funeral interfered with the convention. He said (and I quote) "He ruined a lot of things in my life but he WONT ruin this!" Wow…I just asked, but good to know where Bo stood.
For now we are waiting to find out when his mom will visit and what else they can find out. Bo expects to get a lot more phone calls in the coming days from family. I hope he is doing ok with it all. I don't know how I would take it. But I actually love my brothers and sisters. It's a little different with Bo and Brett.
