Two things have been fixed this week that were a long time coming.
Car Door
First off last Friday my door panel finally told me that it wasn't going to stay on the door much longer. I had been told years ago that the clips were expensive and because of that I dealt with the problem until I absolutely needed to.
I looked around on Saturday for a place to fix it and found that most places weren't open (usually they aren't but there was one place we thought might have been, but wasn't). So I happened over to the place where I get my car fixed normally. I talked with the guy and he said that normally they don't do body repair type stuff. I was fine with leaving it at that and calling Fender Mender on Monday. The guy didn't give up so quickly though and checked my door to see if they had the style of clips in stock.
As it turned out they had the clips and could do the work. I added in the long over due lube and oil job as well as a new air filter and set it all up for Monday. I can tell you that it's been a week now and I am MORE than happy not to have to pound the panel back into the door each time I get into or out of my car! In fact it got so bad over the last weekend that I seriously hurt my left wrist. -_-
To the Mattress….store
One thing that has been LONG over due (as in years) is replacing my mattress on my bed. It got to the point recently (as in the last few months) that I have had back pain from sleeping longer than 5 hours in my bed. :( I planned to get one last year with my tax return but I needed the money for other things. So I planned again this year. I decided I was going to stick to it this time too.
I had been putting it off for one reason or another for weeks since I got my return. First I was sick for a week where I was working but exhausted when I got home. Then every time I wanted to go out someone else had something for me to do. So when my kids were at Danielle's for her birthday last weekend I decided to take the opportunity to check on mattresses while I was out with Bo.
We wandered into Sleep Country, which is just down from Michael's. I had no intention of buying a mattress because I like to (forgive the pun) sleep on my decision always! The two guys working were more than happy to help us look through the mattresses and even walk us through which might be best. Since I have only ever bought a mattress for myself once (20 years ago) and I didn't even really get to choose what it was, I had no clue what I was looking for.
The first thing I noticed was that I had grossly understated what it was going to cost me! -_- I had hoped at that point to just find out about the mattresses and come back when I had more money.
The salesman who talked with us had us try out a number of beds. We started with the Beauty Rest mattresses, which are like $2000 for the set! O_O The idea was to see which really suited us (soft medium or hard). The soft was WAY too soft and I nearly rolled right off the bed. I figured it would take more muscles to keep myself on the bed nightly than it takes for me to walk each day and I would never get any sleep. I didn't think it would be that way but ultimately the firm mattress was what worked best.
The salesman showed us the cheapest in the store and it was not comfortable at all. That's when I realized I was going to have to go with financing if they had it or not get a mattress ever. He showed us over to another set of beds he dubbed the upper middle class of beds. After trying out a few times and discussing it we agreed that it was the right bed. I still did not want to buy on the spot.
The bed was $1200 for both pieces and $999 for just the mattress (which is all I need really). That was still too high even with monthly (interest free) payments. So the salesman cut us a deal. He found a mattress for $730 what was a showroom model for a store whose opening had been delayed. That brought the payments down to a manageable level. So against my determination I was starting to cave. What sealed the deal is when he told me about their return policy and their price matching policy. Basically if I find it cheaper anywhere they will knock my price down to $5 below the other price I find. They will also take it on return anytime within 90 days if I am not happy with it and I can return it for defects anytime in the next 10 years.
I caved and got the mattress. It's a Sealy Posterpedic Cascadia Park. They brought the mattress on Tuesday and hauled away the old one for me. It's a little higher than my last mattress so the bed sits higher (which is going to take some getting used to). I am definitely happy with it though. I have spent 5 nights on it so far and am pleased so far. I think I will need to find new pillows before I am completely comfortable but the mattress part is fixed and I don't wake up with back pain any more! :D
