Helping Grandma

Dec 21, 2008 21:08

I really wish she would call me and ask for help but even now she doesn't want to impose. -_- It dawned on me that if we have snow like this grandma's path through her back yard is probably iced over. I know she would try and get out there if she could and without deicing it I really don't want her to even try.

So we headed over there yesterday. The kids and Bo shoveled the snow. I had picked up a 4lb bag of salt (it was actually water softening salt because no stores had the de-icer left) and spread it thick on the walkways in front and in back. It all helped a LOT!

Then I noticed that she was trying to write out her Christmas cards. Remembering that she has a hard time writing and wouldn't think to ask me for help here either I offered to address all of her envelopes. So we got started on the Christmas cards. I figured this was going to take some time and we had already run through the first bag of salt so I asked grandma about going to the store for some Chicken for dinner. She gave the ok and I headed out.

I picked up another bag of salt, some chicken, mashed potatoes and some Drano for grandma as well. The store was much more empty this time around. I think everyone got their stuff earlier. I didn't even realize it right away but I got in line for the same check I had lined up for 2 hours earlier. She was surprised to see me buying more salt. I laughed and told her that we had gone through the first bag already.

When we got back we all ate dinner and I helped with addressing as many cards as she had done. I hope to help her finish up tomorrow with the rest.

After we were done with dinner and it was getting late we decided to leave. I took the cards we had finished for her and my own stack of cards and we headed to the Post Office to mail them out. Thinking ahead before I had picked up the camera again to get some pictures of grandma's back yard (and in the course of things Muffy as well…though not in the back yard…that's too much for his highness). ^_^ So on the way to the Post Office I stopped and took pictures of more Christmas lights and even the Squirrel Bridge all decked out for Christmas. It's all so beautiful around here with the snow covering everything.

After that we drove around to find a few other houses with nice light displays and then headed home for the night.
