Sometime on Monday grandma's blinds in her front window came down. She was just barely able to get them all the way down to prevent them from breaking (one side came down but not the other). To repair them she needed tape and a staple gun, both of which she has but the staple gun is apparently buried in the garage with everything else. -_-
I wasn't able to take her to the store Monday or Tuesday. This made for a really hot lunch on Monday because the window is HUGE and the sun hit it just right. It was a bit much but nice on such a cold day.
Wednesday after work I took her to Fred Meyers to help her with groceries and finding a new staple gun. We picked one out but the time it took us to go through the store (nearly 2.5 hours) I was exhausted (in part because I have just been tired all week with the drastic temperature changes in my office…which is another story). Anyway so I even had to have Bo help me with offloading her groceries to the house because I was getting really tired.
The plan was then to help out on Thursday before or after dinner. Well other problems arose and she had to let the glue set on the blinds now. So Friday after work she called me over to help. We had already planned to come over but apparently now she wasn't able to get the extension cord to work. -_- I went over with Bo (who would need to help me with lifting the blinds). I found that she just wasn't able to get the chord in the extension properly. I also noted that she probably could have just plugged it into the wall since the stapler chord was long enough.
Ok so I also discovered that I really don't like staple guns. They are WAY too loud for me. Naturally I still had to be the one to use it. -_- So we got the blind stapled and all ready to go.
Now the reason Bo had to come to help is because this blind (the biggest one in her house) is also REALLY heavy. It's 50 years old and made entirely of wood. As you can imagine its also pretty worn. Getting it back in the window went pretty smoothly though (all things considered) and the rest of the window was back together in no time (we also had to put the curtains and valence back up).
I worry about her messing with these things on her own and I worry about how much less she is able to do each year. I am worried that slowly but surely her house is going to become an unsafe trap for her. More than ever I am seeing that eventually I am just going to have to spend another portion of my time helping her with cleaning and maintaining.
