He had to blink away the tears to be able to see the words clearly. In his heart, he felt nothing but pain. It was impossible to put the feelings into words or even thoughts, he could only feel them. The paper he was holding was carried out of his powerless hands by a soft breeze, floating away from him to land on the stone in front of him. With his hand still remaining in the position of holding the letter, he stared at the little piece of white paper that had revealed so many things to him. There was nothing but emptiness left in him, an emptiness that he would never be able to fill up again.

The first sound he made since long was a loud cry as he fell down on his knees, clenching his fists. No one heard him. Of course not. His eyes wandered from the white paper over the rock towards the unmoving shape next to it. He followed the red trail that made its way over delicate fingers up to a small shoulder, finally revealing its source as the trail ended at a gaping wound on the frail neck.

He wondered why there were no tears in him, why he did not cry. It would be a good way for him to release some of the hurt inside of him. With a huge effort, he tore his eyes away from the dead body of the only person he cherished more than anyone, heaving himself up from the ground again to stand on his feet. With an enraged shout, he turned around, grabbing his gun in the movement. They would pay. When he finished with them, they would be begging for their lives.

His first shot hit one of the attacking enemies in his neck, making the guy fall down. He was dead before he hit the ground. The next shot killed another one of his enemies who was using the machine gun, but it also pulled all attention towards him. A few of the enemies turned to stop him. He killed two more in nothing but seconds.

That’s when the first bullet hit him, stopping him in his movements as it collided with his shoulder-blade. He felt his arm going numb, so he immediately passed the gun on to his other hand. Another enemy was down as the second bullet hit him, brushing past his arm and penetrating his skin right under his heart. The sixth man he killed looked strangely familiar, but all common sense had left him. Two more bullets hit him, one in his leg and one in his already numb arm. He stumbled because of the impact of the bullet's speed, feeling how he was starting to lose strength.

His last shot killed the last man standing and having used all of his strength, he fell face down in the dirt, tasting the salty blood that started entering his mouth. With a satisfied smile on his face and the reassurance of sweet revenge he closed his eyes, giving into the weakness that was already taking over his body. As soon as he did, the last of his resist faded and he was taken to distant places.
