Dear Friends and internet Acquaintances;
I have discovered the next stage of my life.
By 2012 I will be living in New York.
I'm going to finish getting my general education credits from MHCC.
Then, after I have saved enough money, I am going to transfer to Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn to obtain my degree in Fashion Design.
What does this mean for you?
Well, I will not be spending any money on unnecessary things such as restaurant food, shopping sprees, or alcoholic beverages. So please refrain from inviting me to such endeavors or implying that I'm a bad friend because I won't take part in that aspect of your lives.
For once in my life I have a dream that I am going to achieve. I am not going to give up.
I haven't felt this desirous for something in a long time and with patience, support, and frugality I am going to make it happen.
So thank you for being understanding.
What does this mean for Matt and I?
We are soul mates. Our love is deeper than any understanding of the word and our bond is strong. We are still getting married; I wouldn't feel as comfortable about my decision to move if we weren't. With that said, Matt won't be moving to New York with me, but Allora will be. This is how we see it:
In two years, matt's band will be touring more often than not (especially now that they're signed to a record label). I have and always will be supportive of his musical passion and career. So while he is on the road getting his music out there, I will either a) be sitting in portland, working as if i were a single mother because we all know that musicians can't support families efficiently; and probably resenting him, or b) living my own life and following my own dreams while still being understanding and supportive of his goals/ambitions.
The thing that made us attracted to one another from the beginning was our ability to dream and go for the unthinkable. We want to continue that lifestyle and raise our daughter with the mentality that anything is possible. Sure it will be hard having a long distance marriage, but I think it would be harder to have him be away on tour "having all the fun" while I sat around twiddling my thumbs. This way we're both happy and going after something extraodinary! And you know what they say- what doesn't bend, breaks.
Of course there will be the question of our sex lives. And by then we will have it figured out; I assume we're going to have an open sex life. But we'll address that issue when it arrives.
For now, I'm just figuring out ways to skrimp and save- which is something I've always been bad at. So if you have any ideas on how I can make money, please feel free to share; keep in mind, though, that I do have a child and go to school so my time is limitied and I don't want to pay for child care.
