For
yuletide this year, I wrote
Will It Go Round In Circles, an NCIS:LA G/Sam story for Bryonia Alba (
coffee-n-cocoa).
I was right to question whether or not I had enough time to participate this year, so no pinch-hits for me, but I am so glad that I didn't skip it! I would have hated to miss out on all the yuletide fun, and it's never a hardship to write about Sam and G and the gang. AND it gave me the opportunity to pimp
thehoyden into the fandom while forcing her to beta for me (to go along with the sharp insights of
shayheyred and the incredibly powerful cheerleading of
drlense).
This was also the first year I've written in one of the more popular yuletide fandoms, so it's been especially gratifying to know that other people are actually finding and reading my story amidst literally thousands of other lovingly crafted gifts.
Additionally, I participated in
xover_exchange this year, which was also a blast. I wrote
Feeling Supersonic for
everyoneisemo, a Dr. Horrible/Dr. Who (Dr. Horrible/Ten) crossover. I don't know what happened, but I could barely string together a coherent English sentence for that one -- luckily, my lovely betas persevered and helped me wrangle it into some semblance of the shape I wanted it to be.
I guess the lessons I've learned are twofold: Don't wimp out on the challenges you want to do and Cling tight to your betas and never let them go.
