Alex supported her two year old daughter on her hip and played with the little stuffed cat she insisted on carrying around everywere she went.
Bobby should have been home an hour ago and Chloe was the only distraction she had from the knot forming in her stomach. Every cop's spouse felt it, but none knew what to do when it actually happened. A few years ago she watched her friend, Teresa, go through it.
The knock on the door startled her. She took a deep breath, kissed Chloe's head, and then moved to the door.
She found Joe Dutton, Bobby's partner, on the other side looking uncomfortable and sad.
All Alex could do was just shake her head, silently pleading for more time.
