The Originals 1.14

I really loved this episode, mostly for the Klaus/Stefan. I have shipped them ever since TVD Season 3, and their chemistry is still crackling. Their scenes together are so fun to watch, and Stefan is one of the few people outside of family who makes Klaus seem halfways human.

Caroline, of course, is another, and I loved Klaus' conversation with her during the TVD half of the crossover, where he admitted that his family is the one thing that makes him truly happy, even as they're making him crazy. I also thought his remembrance of Liz was a nice touch. (Still don't forgive him for killing Carole Lockwood, though.)

Did anyone else find Stefan/Freya unreasonably hot? Half a second on screen together and I'm thinking, "Oh, THERE'S a thing!" Too bad they're on different shows. I would approve of such a thing. "So, full disclosure - I used to date your sister." SNORT.

The writers' decision to break only Klaus's sire line is brilliant. It leaves Klaus more vulnerable than his siblings; any vamp can try to kill him now without worrying about the effects on the rest of Klaus's get. Klaus has been more powerful than his siblings ever since they were turned (the daggers never worked on him), but this development resets the power balance back to the pre-vamp status quo. As humans, Klaus was the one who took the full force of Mikael's cruelty while his siblings were more or less spared, sowing the seeds of his fear and paranoia. That fear will come back full force now that he no longer has the built-in protection of the sire bond, and he'll be increasingly mistrustful of everyone, including family. It's a great turn of events.

One of my favourite moments in this episode was when Stefan told Klaus that Haley cared about him. Klaus looked so genuinely surprised at this revelation, and it was a nice affirmation that Klaus, Haley and Hope really are a family - however dysfunctional.

I thought the idea of drawing out Raina (sp?) the hunter to attack the Strix was pretty clever, and it made the crossover work well.

So Aurora gets the Cask of Amantillado treatment for an eternity of torture? Yeah, that should last about a week before someone busts her out. Possibly Tristan, too. They will be back.

No Cami in this episode, but Stefan made up for it.

I wonder how long it will take for Kol to try to kill Klaus? I'm sure Davina will help. Should be fun!

the originals, stefan does whatever klaus says
