7 things that were awesome about this Tuesday
1. The Minis! I already knew they were going to be completely adorable and they didn't disappoint. I maintain that there needs to be a flashback episode at some point mostly because I'm fascinated with how the club dynamics were as children, but I enjoyed the brief scene we got. "I just wanna dance."
2. "I'm Mike Chang." A) I find it hysterical that Santana picked Rachel to mimc. B) Brittany choosing Mike made me laugh like none other. C) Mike approving of Brittany's mimicry is amazing. Mike Chang continues to be my favorite. Especially when he is waging a paper-ball-throwing war during class. Well done, son. Well done.
3. Holly Holiday. I enjoyed having you around like A LOT, girl. Mostly because you're nice to look at, but also because you were pretty much awesome. Forget You was so much fun (especially with my Queerios hanging out) and I loved her speech to Rachel. I also liked her advocacy about giving the kids a voice in the club and allowing the freedom to do things they wanted to do even if it was ultimately destroyed at the end with Will continuing to ignore them. I can never tell if the show is trying to get me to like Will or not. If they're trying to get me to like him they are not succeeding.
Also, the bit at the end where she's wearing the Mary Lincoln costume and talking to Will in the doorway. Yeah. I have no idea what they were saying to each other during that scene because I was so distracted by Brittany/Santana over her shoulder. I was so pissed that they pulled the shot in closer halfway through and I couldn't see them anymore. I NEED THEM IN MY LIFE, SHOW.
Alternatively: THAT TEAPOT IS SPREADING LIES ABOUT ME. Is it bad that this part reminded me of this person that I consistently feud with on a daily basis?
4. Mercedes/tots. I swear to God this show has such a strange affinity for giving the characters bizzare love affairs with food. Quinn/bacon, Santana/breadsticks, Puck/waffles, Finn/grilled cheese? I found her crusade to get tots back amusing, but I really didn't like her story line with Kurt so much. Well, okay no. I liked it to a certain extent. I enjoyed that they were addressing the Kurt/Blaine thing from a friendship standpoint at the beginning - showing how Kurt having a new friend was affecting his relationship with Mercedes and the whole scene at BreadstiX in which Kurt was literally vomiting gay was funny (I couldn't tell if the show was being self-aware or not) and interesting, but then it all sort of got ruined for me when Kurt made it about Mercedes not having a boyfriend.
He makes it very clear that he's not dating Blaine. Then he decides to solve Mercedes' problem by finding her a date so she doesn't feel left out? And his speech to her at the end about how she's treating Kurt like a boyfriend and she shouldn't be so put out that he's spending time with Blaine. I don't understand why this show can't correctly deal with friendships. This story line would have made sense to me if they hadn't brought in the romantic aspect. A lot of people feel disoriented when their close friends find new friends or new boyfriends/girlfriends. It doesn't have to be about being in a romantic relationship. I wish this show would stop teaching its viewers that to be a complete person you have to be dating someone. COME ON, SHOW.
5. Umbrella/Singing in the Rain group performance. I really, really, really enjoyed this number. Partly because everyone looked awesome, but also because they all looked like they were having an illegal amount of fun. I even enjoyed the Will/Holly interaction during the performance. I was just so glad to be smiling again after the way I felt at the end of NBK. I need Mike Chang to wear that hat every single day of my life. No lies.
6. SANTANA ABOUT TO ATTACK RACHEL. Their hatred is so amazing I don't even know what to do with it. Lea's reaction to it was GOLDEN. I just loved it a lot I can't explain it. I'm glad Santana Lopez is back in my life trying to legit cut people. I missed you, baby. (sidenote: Lea was on top form this episode, IMO. Her facial expressions the entire time were great and I love when she slipped on the butter floor and just got up.)
7. So I was super distracted during Rachel's upbeat, glamorous number with Holly because of Kurt and Quinn. IDEK. I want them to be friends so bad, you guys. I blame Chris and Dianna for being such adorable bffs. I NEED IT. IT WAS SO DISTRACTING. I need to write Kurt/Mercedes/Quinn friendship fic all over the place. Neeeeeed it.
I will say, however, I would really like to stop friendship or romantically shipping every single person that gets near another person. I swear to God...people pass each other in the hallways or smile at each other in glee practice and I FUCKING SHIP THEM WTF. Thus, my next point:
PROMO - Okay. I like. Okay. Why, dear God, why was I so excited to see Finn and Santana having like...a conversation? WHAT THE FUCK? Well, actually I know why, but I am so ashamed with just how excited it made me. It helps that Finn/Santana isn't a threat to the things I love and that if that's happening then other things aren't happening. I really need them to be surprise bffs or something and talk about their awkward virginal sex. That would make my life I'm pretty sure.
Also, I'm excited for pretty red dresses.
Anyway, this was an improvement from last week, certainly. Though it's hard not to be better than that shitshow. It did help, too, that this episode had minimal plot and dealt heavily with Will/Sue/Holly/Adults instead of the kids. So...my hope is not restored, but my heart is mending.
