Germany is expected to issue a nationwide ban on Red Bull Cola after traces of cocaine were found; the company says the traces are normal. Six German states have already removed Red Bull Cola energy drinks after 0.4 micrograms of cocaine per liter were found. German broadcaster Deutsche Welle quoted a state health official as saying that while the cola isn't harmful, it "violates food law."
Red Bull said its cola is "harmless and marketable in both the U.S. and Europe." It said similar coca leaf extracts are used worldwide as flavouring, and a test it commissioned itself found no cocaine traces. (tested itself, huh?)
Ingredients of Red Bull Cola:
-Water
-Sugar
-Carbon dioxide
Natural caramel flavor
-Natural flavors from plant extracts (0.37%): galangal, vanilla, mustard seed, lime, kola nut, cocoa, liquorice, cinnamon, lemon, ginger, coca leaf (absent in Switzerland [2]), orange, corn mint, pine, cardamom, mace, clove, and lemon juice concentrate
-Caffeine from coffee beans.
