The boychild and I went down to St. Simons for the long holiday weekend and had a blast. We got up early-ish on Saturday to get there by lunchtime. We stopped by a farmer's stand on the way but still arrived in a timely manner, had a tasty snack at Mom's, and then went over to my Dad's. He gave me a bunch of neat stuff that had been stuck in storage. Then Mom and Karl and the boychild and I had a fabulous dinner of favorites that Mom cooked. She included the red potatoes I'd bought at the farmer's stand and they were the best red potatoes I've eaten in years. Sunday we got up early-ish to get to the beach during low tide (and to miss the crowds) and had a blast on the beach. We took half of the watermelon that we'd also bought at the farmer stand, and found that it also was one of the best I'd had in years. We left the beach as the congestion really got going, and had a fabulous brunch at 4th of May with Dad followed by a walk while eating sweets from the nifty new candy shop. The boychild and I then played games or hung out for the rest of the afternoon with Mom and Karl, followed by a fabulous dinner at Bonefish. In the morning we got up way too darn early so the boychild could get in some more beach time (I sat on a towel and read) while volunteers picked up bottles and bottle rockets and dog-walkers played with their dogs. I also was called upon to do a live burial of a 13-year-old. We then went an had a fabulous breakfast with Dad, followed by a fabulous second breakfast at Mom's (Karl declined to have French Toast for lunch--his loss). We played a couple more games and then got on the road, arriving back home just barely before dark.
