We had a very food-oriented day today. I started out by visiting the farmer's market, where I was foiled in my quest for some homemade peach jam. I got a bunch of very nice veggies, though, and stopped by Harry's on my way to the Valvoline, so my father-in-law did get some peach jam after all even if it was commercially made. Grant and I checked out a new restaurant called Bone Garden Cantina. If you like non-faux-Mexican and oddball skeleton decor, you should go. The food was quite tasty. The spices were a little odd, though. I am used to stuff that starts out a little too spicy for me to heat up and get way too spicy as time goes on, but this spiciness actually receded a little.
After lunch we met up with some friends to see "Paranormal Activity" at the Regal in Atlantic Station. Aside from some inconvenient parking, it's a pretty good theater with a floor that didn't feel sticky. I might have liked the movie more if the handheld camera hadn't made me desperately queasy. I had to step out for a few minutes in the middle. The problem might actually have been the subsonics they were using, as I hadn't had problems with Cloverfield; I noticed that during and leading up to most of the scenes where there was supposed to be tension were when I was noticing this really low bass vibration, and that was when my stomach would twist. I wish we could have made it to dinner afterwards to discuss the movie, but the kids had to be picked up, so we missed out. Sorry, guys. Tell me what you thought about the movie?
Then we went home and I cooked dinner and I just finished eating a really huge bowl of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup in front of the computer while the guys watch football on TV and the girlchild reads a comic book. I will be heading back to the bedroom to hang out with the cat soon.
The book I am currently reading is "Folk of the Air" by Peter S. Beagle. It's almost halfway through, and the weirdness promised in the blurb on the back is only just beginning. But it's a very fast read, so I wonder if the rest of the story will move even faster.
