I'm having a hard time getting started today.
Well, I guess I've had lunch (no breakfast, but lunch is good!), done some dishes, and cleaned off some of the kitchen counters. So, there's that.
It's not uncommon for me, at the beginning of a week off, to fritter away the first three days not doing very much, and then trying to cram too much into the last two and feeling frustrated by the time I have to go back to the store. So this time I'm trying to decide what I want to accomplish this week, rather than just today, and break that down into managable chunks.
There's a bit of laundry left over, and dishes! *laughing delightedly*
My parents got me place settings for 12 - not fancy, just sturdy neutral white corningwear - to replace the piles of mismatched chipped "everyday" dishes we have. Now, this hardly sounds like a fun gift, but I've been poring over cheap stonewear dish sets in the cataloges, because I really am getting mightily tired of everything I own being shabby. And wow, three sizes of plates and three sizes of bowls! I've never owned luncheon plates and pasta bowls before...
So today's project is to sort through what I have, take out the complete sets in good condition for donation, and toss the rest. ...and in the meantime to wash the new stuff because I'm leery 'bout taking it right out of the packaging and putting it onto the shelf. Maybe it's silly, but I feel better if I wash them all first.
My Aunt and in-laws sent me money, so I've got some spending to do, too. I'm thinking I'll get a third storage tower (Vilmos got me two clear plastic storage towers for my yarn) and get all my yarn stashed away, and then it's a toss. I have a poster to frame, I'd like to get a decent slipcover for our sofa, and we could also use glasswear and flatwear to compliment the dishes. When did I become so domesticated? ...of course, what I should do is get yarn for the ribby turtleneck I want to make - I know for sure my FiL will scold if I spend all his money on house-stuff instead of personal stuff.
My sister bought me a fantastic amethyst and silver choker and earrings set. Pretty pretty! Danger Boy got me a little red teddy bear (aww), and a jar opener. I'd lay money on that jar opener being the most-appreciated gift this year. Yay, no more asking Vilmos to open everything! Mouse left his gift at his Dad's house, so I'll get it next week.
Okay. Thanks for being patient through the self-indulgent gift listing. I'm off to check in on the laundry and start another round of dishes...
