Hello all!
I'm so gald that we have started "A midsummer Night's Dream". My FAVOURITE Shakespeare play!!!! Although I think I may have some bias, being a fairy myself. hahahahaha! Yes, it is true, while perhaps not as mischievous as in Shakespeare's time, I am a fairy. and while i'm not exactly able to perform magic, smiles magically appear on childrns faces. hahahaha! So you could say i'm a little bit fairy crazy.
So naturally I am more interested in the relationship between Oberon and Titania. I find it interesting that the relationship between the two fairies is so human. The arguments they have and their reactions of anger, frustration, smugness, and then regret, are emotions that are present in all human relationships.
Another interesting aspect between these two lovers is their differences. Oberon is not just king of the fairies, but also the king of the shadows, suggesting the ambiguous nature of fairies and their mystical origins. It also suggests something a little dark, perhaps even sinister about the character. Titania on the other hand (a name created by Shakespeare for the fairy queen and does not feature in othe Faery folklore............................. I told you I was nuts) is only refered to as the queen of the fairies and holds qualities that suggest love and harmony. An example of this is the argument tha have which causes much of the drama, about how a baby should be cared for. This seemingly unharmonious relationship suggests to me the opposite.
While the couple does argue, in the end they realise that they do Love eachother. In my view, the differences between them are what make them Love eachother. Because while the similarities between two people are what make people like one another (or in txt talk "Luv or Luff) it is the differences that show True Love. Because it takes a lot more to 'agree to disagree' or even take a step back and say "You're right" ( even if you know you're not) ;) hahahaha!
What do you think?
