This week we watched some really great performances of "Under Milk Wood" ("door slama!" haha classic) and while i found it really funny, quirky and a little weird what I liked most about it was the way that it shows people's everyday lives as interesting and exciting. I know this might sound a bit weird but I really love just imagining what other people's lives are like. Everyone has an interesting story and I liked how "Under Milk Wood" showed that. I espcially like that way that the first group presented snippets of the different sharacters and as the play progressed it was interesting to see how they all tied together.
Although this is a radio play I think that it really works well visually on stage, or at least the two performances we saw in class were really great adaptations.
Just on the note of the interesting, and often overlooked lives of ordinary people I have ventured to write a peice of prose about this. It is really bad so please don't read it hahahaha!
A fly on the wall
Only me.........
noisy school kids laughing and swearing. But no matter what he says it wont take away that fact that he hates what they say about his sick mother. He swears it all away but he goes home to care for her, wash her clothes and make her dinner
The slick man in the suit follows shortly after,he almost pushes an old man over just to get on the train. He pretends to write out a report but the truth is he is thinking about his date tonight. Will she be the one? or was it sally,Debbie, Samantha from the previous week?......
The old man missed the train......... no one stirs.
More and more pile in, thoughts buzzing of their plans for today, tomorrow, five years to come.....
An old man gets on.....
no seats are spare.....
the school kids clone one another, pretending not to care. It is safer to stick to stereotypes. The other bussiness people stick their lastest music device further into their ears. determined to keep their seat.
the old man cares not. he is not steady on his feet but does not make a fuss. the noises of the train echo back the horrors of Vietnam, the stink, the sights of fallen comrades. He fought for them, now they can't even spare a seat........
Out of the blue an woman stands from her seat gesturing for him to take hers. She is not young. Maybe 60. never married. no kids. lung cancer from 40 years of smoking. She smiles a sad smile and the man takes her seat.....
will tomorrow be the same?
Like I said not very good. hahaha!
Bye for now
