literature entry week 9
Well the time has come for another dreaded creative entry. BLAH! I’m a bit unsure what to do for this week, and I know I should feel like I should embrace literary creativity after reading “1984” and ‘try’ to write a masterpiece using as many words as possible in memory of thoses poor souls from 1984 who were denied the amazing qualities of words. However, I must say I am less than ‘first-class’ at poetry or in fact creative writing (perhaps next year will help) and must say I am a little intimidated by some of the amazing works by some of my colleague students.
However, I like to laugh at the face and danger (hahahaha) and know there is more than one way to skin a cat ( clichés; I love them, I know MG hates them J) so haven’t quite given up on the idea of a creative entry ( sorry to disappoint) so, like most of my creative entries, this is kind of weird and a bit of a trial.

Ok so I’m no artist, the point I am trying to make about “1984” is that while at first I thought ‘cutting down on the English language wouldn’t be too bad’ ( I know, shoot me) but if there are other ways to express ourselves then we should be fine, and this is what I found scariest about “1984” the concept of thought crime and how it not only stopped you from saying the wrong thing, but expressing it in any way. Like Michelle said in her entry, everything we do shows who we are; a smile, a glance, a walk.
But when I started to think about it some more, words and visual arts go together so closely that it is hard to have one without the other. A work of art is a story, one that needs a large vocabulary to tell and do justice to. This work, like all can tell heaps of different stories to different people. I don’t know if I’m making my point very clear but I guess what I’m trying to say is, without language, in a world of newspeak, this, and all other paintings, drawings, sculptures are nothing but shapes and colours. The story is gone.
