Well, I'm here. I'm currently writing this from the studio at some guys desk who isn't in today. I don't have a station set up yet and my producer said he doesn't really expect me to do anything today anyways. After this I'm going to go exploring.
I walked passed the Kilkenny brewery today when I was heading to the studio. The studio is located right next to a cathedral and some catholic private school for boys. Also I walked by a castle today, a CASTLE! So my flight was long and tiresome, I was seated next to a guy from London so I had a nice chat and a beer with him. After the flight into Heathrow, the next steps became slightly convoluted.
First the shuttle buses weren't ready for us so we had to wait for 20 mins in the plane. Then one bus came and took some people but I had to wait for the next one which took another 15 mins or so. Once the bus shuttled us to the terminal, I had to go and walk around a bit to find the place I needed to go to catch another bus. I took a second bus and ended up in a line where, since I was carrying a laptop and a carry on, they pulled me aside. In Vancouver a laptop isn't considered a bag, but in Healthrow, it is. So I am only allowed one bag, I had take my laptop out and shove the bag into my carry on. With books and laptop under one arm, and my half opened stuffed bag in the other, I went into the other room where I was bombarded by a massive queue to get through the security checkpoint. I swear my arms were about to fall off by the time I got to the front. Holding a laptop and three books under one arm for about 25mins or so isn't easy. Once through I put my shoes back on and headed to my gate.
I looked at my watch and I was suppose to be at my gate at that moment so I started running and, man , is that airport big. I was running between 5 to 10 minutes and when I got to my gate they had to call to see if they could still let me on or not. Luckily they did let me on. Holy crap that was a close call in my opinion. Landing in Dublin was cool, looking out the window I could see so much green and rolling hills, and a golf course that looked like it would be amazing to play on. From the airport I took a bus to the train station, then I caught the train into Kilkenny which took about two hours. I was so tired and I wanted to sleep but every time I closed my eyes, this woman had a major chest cold and kept coughing up a lung. Maybe it was for the best, otherwise I may of missed my stop.
Once in Kilkenny, the producer was waiting for me and he took me back to his place where he had a lamb chop and a plate of spaghetti waiting for me. I so needed that, mmmm. Well, that's pretty much how the day went. I went to bed around 1:30am and I woke up completely awake around 5am. I'm going to be tired tonight. I also got a tour of the studio and I got to see some of the traditional feature they are working on. So cool to see animation desks and flipping going on in a studio!
Now I'm just looking to try and find a place to live, I have a few places circled in the paper. There is also a few people in the studio that are renting a house, they may need a fourth but there is one guy who is ahead of me in the pecking order, so if he doesn't go, then I may have a place. We'll see what happens. I love the buildings in this place though, very cool. Although the driving on the wrong side of the road tripped me out. I thought we were going to crash into oncoming traffic, then I realized that no, we aren't on the wrong side of the road, I'm just backwards out here.
The accents can't help but make me smile. It's so weird that everyone has an accent. I bought a bagel from this coffee shop today (the best bagel ever, mmm bacon and cream cheese) and it was just an interesting experience, I feel like such a tourist, haha. Ok, I think that's about it for now. I will update more when I have a chance. Cheers.
