"I heard it was going to rain pretty hard tomorrow," Aki said. He used the plastic straw to swirl the icecubes in his drink, glancing around the small cafe. There was only one other customer, eating a burger by himself. And it was getting dark outside. Or rather, darker.
"Well, I happen to like the rain. It calms me down," Mao commented as he worked on cutting a piece of his syrup-drenched pancakes.
"You ordered breakfast this late at night."
It wasn't a question, but a statement. A statement that was accompanied by kindness and care and love. It was sweet. Sweet as maple syrup.
"Hey, they serve it all-day, everyday. Might as well take advantage of it," Mao replied, giving the other a smile and that look. The one that made Aki feel all weird in the inside. Weird. Weird? More like giddy. Though he kept his complexion blank. And he kept his heart quiet. He must keep his heart quiet. He had to look composed in front of Mao. Especially in front of Mao.
"Thanks for meeting me here. I just wanted to see you. I missed you. A lot. I was getting tired of sending you texts and talking to you over the phone because it wasn't enough for me. I'm sorry I'm selfish," Aki said, concentrating on the table because if he made eye-contact with Mao, if he dared make eye-contact with his lover, he'd--
He did it anyway and he could've sworn that he fell in love with Mao all over again.
A masochist he was.
Mao chuckled, giving the thought of sharing some delicious dessert his number one priority.
"I love you too, Aki."
