Summary: How Tony Dinozzo started working for NCIS.
Pimp: I love reading case-fic that reads like a real episode. This one is all about the case that first introduced Tony to Gibbs, with a splash of Ducky and Abby to add some flavour. I think the author pulled out a very convincing Tony-before-Gibbs and Gibbs-before-Tony. I like the take on Tony's life before joining NCIS, and how that two-year expiry works into the story and Tony's motivations. This is a more serious side of Tony when he was basically on his own (even though he technically had a partner), and shows a different side of Gibbs, before he took on someone who could follow his lead and become an excellent second to his commander.
I will leave you with two warnings. First, this is a long story. I mean looooong. And it seems to drag in some places, but if you really enjoy character pieces, stick it out because it's worth it. Second, the case they are dealing with involves kids. And not in a remotely nice way. If this bothers you, turn back now.
Excerpt:
Gibbs gave the small silver camera a distinctly mistrustful glance, and Tony had the unsettling feeling that he’d picked the wrong way to go about a truce.
“Is that digital?”
“Uh, yeah. Problem?”
He couldn’t help being a little smug. The way Gibbs was eyeing the poor thing, it might as well have been a cobra poised to strike him. Tony ran his thumb across the surface as if petting it, and gave Gibbs a small smile that almost felt friendly. So the bastard had a weakness after all - - one the two of them had in common, most of the time. Tony wasn’t exactly stuck in the Dark Ages, but he still typed two-fingered and his main computer experience came from online poker and free porn.
“If you’re going to be working for me, Dinozzo,” Gibbs said, taking the camera gingerly in his hands, “learn to take some real pictures.”

A Life Dissected by B.Cavis
Rating: PG-15
Summary: I could not have a family.
Pimp: Let's get this out of the way, first. This story is Kate/Ari. Yes, yes - boo, hiss. Let me add that this is slightly AU, in that Ari still remains the good little double agent and doesn't go all evil and kill Kate. This fic, despite it's somewhat dispassionate third party Kate POV is pretty much how they would have gotten together on the show, if not for that whole 'turns evil and kills Kate' thing. The author does a decent job of showing their relationship evolve, and shows what Kate will do to protect those she loves. Kate remains true throughout the whole story, which is probably why I like it so much - she will not turn into a weak-willed, cautious woman just because she has a big, strong man to protect her. She's more than willing to shoot anyone who dares infiltrate her sanctuary, with the gun beneath her mattress. There's also the characterization of Ari as a spy for his country, that understands he can't have any kind of normal relationship because of who he is and what he does, and that this thing with Kate is doomed to failure for that reason. He's a man torn between his heart and his duty, and can't really resolve the two.
Also, I love it because Ari is the bad boy that all the girls love. :)
Excerpt:
She would kill and die and fight and lie for her and her own. He would do the same. Has done the same. Maybe that means they have some sort of Way of the Warrior Cliched understanding with one another. Maybe it just means that they are two lonely people in lonely lives.
He tells himself that his look at the couch as he leaves is not "longing." She tells herself she's not pleased that is was.

Summary: It's about that point when nothing else matters.
Pimp: Alright, so I've given you all fairly tame stuff over the past few days, but that's ended. Here be hardcore BDSM Gibbs/Tony. If that's not one of your particular kinks, stay well away.
So, here's a fic from one of my fav Gibbs/DiNozzo authors. I don't have a lot of them, because quite frankly, very few people write the pairing in a way that doesn't destroy them or make me think they've all turned into weepy girls. I'm very particular about my Gibbs characterization, to the point where I don't really read any authors I don't know, don't trust or haven't been recced in my direction. Another amazing Gibbs/Tony author is
crimsonquills, but since I'm reccing something else of hers later on, I'll introduce you all to
blueraccoon. Most of the people on my flist who share this same kink, will recognize this author and this story, but I thought it needed a general shout out.
This story is about Gibbs and Tony, and the way they deal with stress and each other. It's no real surprise that most of my fav Gibbs/DiNozzo stories are of this same kink, though it should probably say something about how I see Gibbs in this type of relationship. Gibbs has taken the strong, silent image to a whole new level, and Tony has earned a PhD in deciphering the unspoken language that is Gibbs. I will be the first to admit I have no experience with any aspect of the BDSM world - which is why I don't really try to write it outside of kinky het sex - but there are a few authors out there who's writing just strikes a chord as you read. You can tell that effort and thought was put into the work. It may be personal experience, or it may just be extensive research, but either way the emotions and actions feel true.
This particular fic is the first I read of
blueraccoon's stuff, and one of my favourites. Some might argue that there are better stories of hers, but this one holds a steady place on my reading list.
Excerpt:
He does know that by the end of the night, he'll be sobbing for breath, shaking, his skin on fire and salt in his mouth from sweat and tears. He knows that by the time Gibbs lets him come he'll be so lost it'll take him hours to come back to himself, just as he knows that Gibbs will be there, holding him and stroking him until he does.
