The transit strike is over! Finally! \o/
Woohoo!!
For those who don't know (meaning everyone not in Ottawa) the buses haven't been running for quite some time while the stupid transit union tried to negotiate with the stupid city. It was the Battle of the Egos, I tell you.
The strike started on Dec 10. That's 51 days so far.
The entire city has been pissed for the past 48 days (we gave them 2-3 days to deal with it before the seething hate started to boil).
As I have no car, and live next to a transit station instead of a mall, I have been trapped in my apartment having to rely on a family and friends to get me to school, work and out for groceries once a week.
Have I mentioned I hate the stupid transit union and the stupid city?
What's really pissing me off, above and beyond the lack of bus service, is that I have a year bus pass (Sept-Aug). I'm going to demand a refund for these 51+ days of no service.
So, tentatively, the strike is over. City council just has to ratify the agreement tomorrow (and they *better*) and buses can start running again. By the end of next week. At the earliest.
Can someone explain to me how the buses can be completely shut down in a few hours, but it takes upwards of a week to get them running again? It's not like the mechanics haven't been back to work since mid-December.
In conclusion:
Transit Strike Over = \o/
Transit Union Being Bitchy Little Girls = fail
Me = Not Amused
