It was the perfect stargazing van. A 1991 Toyota Previa with a huge back window, which looked like a panorama when you put down the seats and laid down looking up through it.
But then, it was also the perfect stargazing night. Dan, Jon and I had driven out to our super-secret location-- a spot along an unfinished road parallel to Highway 6, about halfway between Baylor and Aggieland. No lights, no houses, no moon. Just stars-- thousands of them.
We had been listening to our usual mix of insomniac music... most of it I don’t remember. Until it came on: the song that burned that night forever into our minds.
Sometimes I think that is what makes our life into a whole. Pieces, fragments of moments and music and faces and places like still photographs... and that one phrase that captures your exact feeling, just right.
