I watch how carefully you light up a new cigarette, inhaling the smoke. A few minutes later, you calmly exhale quietly, all of the smoke that you collected exiting your nose and disappeared in the air as if it was nothing. I know you can feel my eyes - the same eyes that had watched you ever since we were in high school - looking straight at you, but of course, you do nothing. Briefly, your eyes turn to me and I wince noticing how your expression changes from annoyed to calm in an instant. Your lips move, I can hear nothing though I know you are talking to me. I can’t help but just stare until you start to move towards me and I snap back to reality, lowering my head.

‘Are you alright?’ you whisper. I didn’t even look up. I can’t even dare myself to look at you when you are a mere inch away from my face, trying to read my expression as if it were a book. ‘Rei, are you alright?’ you whisper again, you tone turns from playful to worried and concerned.

Don’t look up.

The floor is like a whole new world to me, admiring the white coloured marble texture it has to offer when I should be admiring you. Before I knew it, a hand was reaching out to me, only me. Fingernails painted with a black familiar colour, (some are clipped off ever so slightly though) and pale skin soon coming in contact with my cheek, caressing it gently, trying to comfort me. I have to admit, the softness of your skin decrease my heart rate, making a blush that was trying to invade my face disappear suddenly.

‘Reita?’ you whisper once more, using my stage name as you know it always makes me smile for some peculiar reason - when you say it, of course. And it does. I look up and you immediately smile, knowing that I was okay.

But not from the inside. The outside can play tricks on anybody while the inside is what really matters.

“Don’t judge a book by its cover.” I wonder if anyone actually understands that saying.

I was woken by my thoughts again as I felt your arms circling around my waist, pulling me closer. The hand that was previously holding the cigarette held nothing now; you probably finished it when I wasn’t looking. You look up at me, a smile still on your face. I don’t know if you are smiling to make me feel better or if you have other feelings towards me, but whatever you are doing, it’s working. I wrap my arms around your waist, pulling you closer as you press the side of your face against my chest and close your eyes. In that moment, I wanted to tell you everything: my feelings for you, how you make my heart race whenever I see you and ask if you have the same feelings. But, right now, I just wanted to savour this moment with you in my arms.
