Many Americans are, on an individual level at the least, becoming interested in and aware of foreign affairs that don't involve them directly; something i can't recall as having happened before the late twentieth century. despite the perceived trend in sexual promiscuity there seems to be an overall growth in moral awareness and disapproval with any corrupt or self-centered actions from any government.
The more attention i pay to the people surrounding me the more morality and brilliance i see growing inside of them. I can't recall the last time i heard an argument in a class room in which students didn't examine a problem from every possible standpoint. from idealism to realism, right and wrong, views from both individual and community standpoints; people are learning to see the bigger picture.
Unless i've misunderstood your previous posts, you yourself are a teacher. This alone should give you plenty of opportunity to encourage and observe the multitude of traits which were held in such high regard throughout the periods of growth on which the best sides of western culture have been based. You might be surprised how many people there are like you, and how many of them are having a notable influence on our future through their influence on the people who are going to lead us into it.
