LiveJournal Looks Broken

I did a lot of walking around today. When I came home I took my shoes and socks off... And the skin from my heels with them! Despite having put special foot balm on my heels before we left to stop friction. My heels really hurt and are leaking a pink plasma-like substance ( Read more... )

"Don't do things for animals... despite what all the PETA people want you to believe they aren't actually aware they're in pain. It's just another sensation for them."

Pain is pain. Whether or not an animal interprets it differently than a human doesn't matter. It's obviously an unpleasant, stressful and traumatic experience. Infact, many animals are easily susceptible to death due to environmental stress without even being physically injured.

On the other hand, PETA is ridiculous in assuming that not eating farm animals will save life because in order to have a field to grow food requires altering habitat and using harvesting equipment that ends up killing hundreds and thousands of mice, snakes, insects and whatever else.

Not to mention that our entire species evolved because humans began to eat meat which increased their brain size and made us what we are today. Eating meat is natural and just apart of being human. And while PETA can argue that there are some cultures that don't eat meat, they are in the minority and their diet is highly specialized (and always includes insects as an alternative to animal meat). Not to mention that either way that being human means their ancestors ate meat at one time unless you believe in creationism. And if you believe in creationism, well... the Bible documents meat eating several times.

I was just being brash in my first comment... I don't think I really believe that.

But I've not a vegetarian for 5 years and counting because of animals. I'm doing it because it is better for the entire world to eat as low on the food chain as possible (with the exception of areas with drought, where eating meat is the only real way to get nutrition).

I agree that eating meat is human nature. But it is also human nature to do the opposite of human nature.

All I meant by the first comment is that no one should feel guilty for their actions unless they are impeding on another human's personal rights.
