get out of my ear

Went back to work yesterday. Only managed to work half a day before the pain got ot be too much, but hey, half a day is a good start. The people on my team did send me a card, which was very thoughtful. I was anticipting a Saturday full of the usual calls, which normally is a lot of people calling because they lost their card someplace. Yesterday was definately different. It all started with the new whisper prompt.

Whisper prompts are the messages you get in your ear right as the call is picking up. I work in an inward call center, so people are calling me. Anyway, typical whipser prompts tell me what kind of credit card someone has. As of this week, there is a new whisper propmt..."Hurricane Region". Yeah, that means that someone from teh miserably affected states is calling. For the most part, they're easy calls, they just want to let us know that while they do want to make a payment, they can't for any number if good reasons. As a company, we're basically giving them a two month free pass. So at least as a part of the corporate machine...we're not all bad.

One call I got yesterday is going to be burned into my brain for a while. I hear the usual two beeps and then "Hurricane Region". I'm not uncaring or unsympathetic...Iv'e just never been one who's really good at hearing people's sad stories when I don't know them. What can I say, it takes me a while to emotionally attach to anyone. Anyway, it's some guy who must be about my age on the phone, he watns to close his father's account. So of course as typical I ask the kind of standard questions...why and blah blah blah...the guy tells me that his father died...so I start to fill out hte online form I have to fill out so that the estate department can call and deal with all the legal mumbo jumbo...on the form, I have to fill in what date the customer died. This poor guy tells me that his father "was found on Augest 30."

I'll be honest, I don't know if I can take these calls for 40 hours a week. As if the images on the news and all around aren't bad enough...now half of my calls are people with their sad stories. What a week to quit smoking.

Otherwise...my knee is still attached...hurts like a mo fo. I ahve bruising in places that I have NO clue how they got there, but I'm surge it related the the surgery. Thankfully the stiches come out Wednesday...I can't wait to take a shower without having to cover any part of my body in plastic.
