Con Report, Part the First

Vidcon.

So two weeks ago I'm at Vidcon and I'm having a great time while I'm losing my voice. Why am I losing my voice? Running panels is hard! Well, it's hard on one's voice if one isn't quite prepared to do that much talking at quite that volume for quite that extended period of time. But then, it got noisy and everyone wanted to have their say. Typical Vidcon.

According to my newest Canadian Friend, Vidcon is the 'most contentious con ever.' I feel rather proud of that title. There's nothing wrong with a little contention among friends at a con. A little 'convention contention', as they say. Or someone says. Me, anyway.

So it was good and I'm going next year and if you don't mind some friendly debate over the purpose of fanfic or if fandom is a friendly place, you should seriously consider going. Check out Stone Hill for more details. It's worth it. Think about it. $40 for a three-day con, food included (catered meals that are actually tasty!) and all the contention you can contest? (You do have to pay for hotel, but... so what?) It's a well-run con that gets better every year. What's more, the con organizers truly aren't getting anything free out of the deal. Unlike other cons I could name. And will, later. Guess I still haven't worked through that Vidcon-fueled contentiousness.
